Keene Middle School Summer Reading

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Summer time is a chance for everyone to unwind and enjoy the activities that are not available during the school year. We want students to use this time to have fun and take some well-deserved time for rest and relaxation. During those long summer days, we encourage all students to use their downtime to explore their interests. A great way to do this is through reading, even for just a few minutes each day. Research shows that students who maintain a regular reading schedule throughout the summer maintain their skills and are better prepared for the coming school year.

To support your children during the summer months, we encourage all students to read at least two books of their own choosing. There is a special pleasure in reading books not assigned for coursework. The KMS Summer Reading Lists (separate lists for each grade) offer suggestions, not requirements, for students looking for great books. These grade level lists are posted on the Library Media Center page of our website. Students are free
to select books from these lists or to discover books of their own choosing. The goal for all students is to continue reading over the vacation.

We are excited to announce that KMS subscribes to SORA, a downloadable book service.

Please visit the KMS website for additional information regarding summer reading and our lists of recommended books. Connect with your local library for summer reading resources. Keene Public Library welcomes and serves all KMS students, including those from towns across our district. They are a great resource for summer reading and for fun activities. Check out their website to see the summer reading schedule.

Have a great summer and don’t forget to READ, READ, READ!

Sincerely,
Shelli Huntley, KMS Librarian
