Ms. Zilske's morning message:

Good Morning Keene Middle School. April is National Poetry Month and we will honor this month by reading poems written by both students and adults. To start this month of readings, I would like to read a poem that reminds me that beauty and strength are often found in places that society can deem to be lacking in hope. This verse was written by Tupac Shakur, who was a writer and rap artist.

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk without having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

Keene Middle School, as you read and write poetry during April, remember the words of the poem I read to you today. Prove others wrong when they are telling you that you can’t. Keep your dreams when others are telling you they are impossible. Care when you feel it is most difficult. And when you are feeling that you are in a place that lacks hope- remember to Be the rose that grows in concrete and believe in yourself.

Thank you and have a great week.
